Down with Luck...

The Hall 4 Girls' Volleyball Team was up against Hall 8 this morning for a crucial game to decide who will proceed on to the Quarter-finals. It was the first time for our girls to be competing in the SRC indoor court, a totally new environment for them. However the desire for victory was still burning in their hands, ready to make up for their loss in the previous game.

It was a great start for our girls in the first set. Huisin's service has enabled a 6 pts gap, ahead of the opponent. Our strategy was simple, just hit the ball over and hope that the opponents make the costly errors. However by the middle of the set, our momentum was disrupted by their serves and tactical gameplay, the opponent managed to capitalize our weaknesses and made a tremendous comeback, eventually winning the first set. That one set down did not dampen even the slightest bit of the spirits of our girls, they were geared up to win back the second set.

It was an even game in the second set, point for point, both teams were not cutting back any slack to the other, just waiting for one to make the errors. Indeed, the race was on all the way till the score was 22-22, definitely nerve-wracking. In the end, lady luck just wasn't on our side, our girls lost the set and hence the game. Even though the loss resulted in our girls not qualifying to the QF, there were all smiles and encouragement throughout and after the game, with Captain Qiyun keeping the mood of her teammates up all the way. Their main focus today was to immerse themselves in the excitement and love for the game, winning was just a mere bonus, allowing them to enjoy the game longer and even more. We should all be proud of the girls' outstanding effort throughout the competition for they have showed a brilliant display of teamwork and endurance, making up for the lack of skills they had from the beginning to face off with tough opponents. Luck just wasn't with them this year, but they'll will be back even better and with much greater hunger for success next year.
